Hi all
Not much to report this week. All is quiet and stable on the Slackware front.

The only thing I did try was installing Rhythmbox music player from Sourcery. It failed on dependency configure: error: gnome-doc-utils >= 0.3.2 not found. Gnome -doc -utils is in SlackBuilds but I didn't have time to install it. Will try it later. So I continue to use Exhaile music player that came installed. It is good but I prefer Rhythmbox. I just like Android control so I can pause adjust player from my phone.

Thanks for reading.

Did i mention that Salix is a nice Slackware distribution. Did I mention that multilib sucks to do and makes me worry about big updates.
So what I am getting at is I switched my laptop and main machine to Salix XFCE x686. Stop reading now if you think I am cheating because I am. Salix install went great. I used the step by step install instead of the fully automatic install. After the install your new desktop is clean with one panel and a few icons on the desktop.

For packages, there is Gslapt and Sourcery. Gslapt is to access Salix repo and Sourcery is to access source builds. If a build fails in Sourcery, look at error and it usually a dependency that Gslapt can install. Most regular stuff installed perfectly.
The only real problem I had was installing conky with lua support. The conky in Gslapt doesn't have lua support so off to SlackBuilds.org. In SlackBuilds download lua(5.1), scons, conky and tulua++. Install in order lua, scons, tulla++. When installing conky use "LUA=yes ./conky.SlackBuild". If you don't have audacious installed, install it or edit conky. SlackBuild and delete the audacious dependency line. If you installed the NVidia driver right from NVidia, you will need to re-install Mesa with Gslapt. The NVidia driver does mess up the conky install.

Hi everyone

I installed Salix  XFCE x64 from salix.org on my laptop. It is nice and is working great. Just a few problems with dependencies in Sourcery but fixed them easily with Gslapt installs.

Multilib went ok with http://alien.slackbook.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=slackware:multilib
just check Gslapt after to see if glibc and gcc are locked so they can't upgrade.

My main machine got Slackware 14.1 x64 with openbox. I have everything I need installed so far including Google Chrome and Steam. Will next be working on installing libre office and my funky printer (Minolta m2400w)

Happy so far. I only worry about the next big update and having to update glibc and gcc. Will it break or will it survive.

Hi All

So my Slackware adventure begins. I have installed Slackware 14.1 x64 on my laptop.
I am using the KDE desktop which is version 4.10.5
First thing I want to do is install Multilib support. I used the site http://alien.slackbook.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=slackware:multilib  for instructions.
Next was to install Mumble from Slackbuilds.org. We need to install opus, protobuf and speex from Slackbuilds also.Mumble works great even without pulseaudio
On to google talkplugin. It installed fine.from a Slackbuild but I beleive i need Pulseaudio because sound or mic doesn't work.
